Argillite, located in Greenup County, Kentucky, is a rural community with approximately 1,000 residents. Nearly half (47 percent) of residents in the county earn less than $25,000 per year. Single-family homes make up the prevailing housing stock of the Argillite area. Several small businesses are located in the vicinity with some large employers in close proximity. Argillite is a strong faith-based community; congregations of multiple denominations are located in the vicinity.
With input from members of the community and collaboration with a wide variety of agencies, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, part of Bon Secours Kentucky Health System, is working with residents and leaders in the community to develop an understanding of the unique aspects of the Argillite area to address some of the challenges residents are facing that negatively affect the quality of life, health, and well-being of the community.
