local produce delivered to your door

The “Farm-to-Door” produce delivery service complements our farm stands, addressing the needs of the elderly, homebound, and working families who are unable to access the market for a variety of reasons. Pre-packed bags are sold at wholesale cost and delivered directly to centers, senior HUD housing, and private residences. THIS SERVICE IS FREE-OF-CHARGE TO ALL RESIDENTS IN BRONX CB8 AND MANHATTAN CB12.

Program customers receive deliveries from community volunteers and Bon Secours New York Homecare RNs during weekly home visits. A program meant to serve the most vulnerable, the bags are sold at wholesale cost, allowing for more produce per bag. Purchases are made along with bulk orders for the farm stands, so cost remains low. Cultivated relationships with farmers sympathetic to the mission often allows for deeper discounts. Our volunteers packed bags and seniors picked up from site or had home delivery. The model is similar to CSA sites, but more flexible with no pre-payment and the variety is greater. Each week during harvest season, senior and teen volunteers pick up produce from farmers, packed bags and make deliveries to customers identified by churches and senior centers. The cost of the bag: $12. Participating in the NYS Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (NYS FNMP)approved farmers allows us to accept WIC Senior FNMP coupons in addition to EBT/food stamps. Each bag provides included important public service announcements and information (voting information, weather warnings, community events, etc.). All recipes are diabetic-friendly, low-calorie and easy to prepare. As well, the interaction between customers and volunteers are enriching. Often, volunteers spend more than 15 minutes visiting in homes.

Sample $12 Bag: bunch collards; bunch beets; bunch carrots; bunch celery; 2 pounds tomatoes; 3 pounds potatoes; head garlic; 1 green pepper; 2 jalapeno peppers; 2 pounds peaches; 2 plums
